Legislators on the Human Rights Committee are holding the Uganda Human Rights Commission accountable over alleged inhumane arrests, torture and detention. A warrant for celebrated singer R Kelly’s arrest has been issued after he failed to appear in court on federal sex crime charges. R Kelly was charged with two counts of soliciting prostitution from someone under the age of 18 in Minnesota, and Hennepin County Attorney Judith Cole said that no attorney had filed a certificate of representation for the singer. The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Betty Aol Ocan, has condemned government’s decision to use the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) to manage Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) programmes instead of skilled agricultural extension workers. Kyadondo East Lawmaker has decried the manner in which some Ugandans are being handled in security operated safe houses across the country. The Director of Public Prosecutions has dropped charges against ICT state minister Idah Nantaba regarding the murder of Ronald Ssebulime. The DPP does not give reasons for withdrawal of the charges in a letter dated September 9, 2019. Ssebulime was gunned down after he was suspected of trailing and trying to kill the minister in March this year.
