Tooro Sub-region leaders during the weekend unanimously passed a resolution to endorse President Yoweri Museveni as their sole candidate for the NRM chairperson seat and their 2021 presidential candidate. The resolution was passed after an engagement between the President and the over 1,000 leaders in Fort Portal town. Leaders at all levels should make fighting household poverty their number one priority lest the situation becomes a national crisis, President Museveni has said. Speaking to over 1,000 leaders from Tooro region on Thursday at Kalya Courts Hotel in Fort Portal town, President Museveni said it was dangerous that 68 percent of the population was still engaged in subsistence agriculture and were not part of the money economy. More than 26,000 Ugandans have lived on Apaa land in Amuru and Adjumani districts (Acholi sub-region) for decades. It is their ancestral home to which they have an eternal attachment. The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has challenged female lawmakers to ensure pending bills are handled expeditiously before the general elections in 2021.
