Paul Malong Awan, former South Sudan’s army chief of general staff has withdrawn with his security guards to outside of Juba but is not planning for war, a spokesman for the SPLA army said this morning. Malong, who was a key player in the ongoing ethnic conflict in South Sudan, was removed by President Salva Kiir on Tuesday and replaced with Gen. The Prime Minister of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has told the kingdom’s Lukiiko (Parliament) the actual reasons why the King recently visited the head of state President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The head of Gambia’s central bank Amadou Colley, appointed by the previous President Yahya Jammeh, has been sacked. No official reason has been given for the sacking and Mr Colley told the Reuters news agency that he did not know why he had been fired: “We received our letters today without giving us any reason for our sacking, only stating ‘Your services have been terminated with immediate effect’,” he said. A convoy of military escort for South Sudan’s First Vice President Taban Deng Gai was ambushed by unknown gunmen at Sudan-Safari area along the Juba-Bor road today morning, wounding three soldiers.
