Ahead of the Easter Season an intelligence led operation was last night carried out within the areas of Kabale municipality during the hours of 1:00 am – 4:00 am. The crackdown had 44 suspected criminals arrested with some appearing on the wanted list. The long awaited Local council one (LCI) elections will be held between June and August this year according to justice minister Maj Gen Otafiire Kahinda. Otafiire told the Legal and Parliamentary affairs committee of Parliament that although the date is not yet fixed, Government has already committed itself to hold the elections during the stated period and not next year as initial media reports indicated. The Uganda prisons spokesperson Frank Baine has confirmed that Dr. Stella Nyanzi has gone through what he described as mandatory medical examination. This act has instead spilled several reactions from Dr. Stella Nyanzi’s relatives and legal team sighting that it was not mandatory since she did not consent to the checkup thus portraying the greatest degree of human rights abuse. President Yoweri Museveni has directed the ministry of Agriculture to intensify mass sensitisation against the Fall Army Worm. During his tour of Busoga region, the President sensitized farmers on best spray practices and pesticides. Early this week, government through the Ministry of Agriculture Animal industry and Fisheries has set aside 4.5 billion in an attempt to control the spread the destructive Fall Armyworm that recently hit various parts of the country.
