The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has called for the expeditious handling of the Administration of Parliament (Amendment) Bill, 2019 that provides for election of the Leader of the Opposition, other Opposition leaders and representation of independent members on the Parliamentary Commission. The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) reduced license renewal fees for telecom companies following a market survey and regional comparisons. UCC Executive Director, Godfrey Mutabazi told MPs on the House Committee on ICT and National Guidance that the reduction in fees was arrived at following an analysis of the market performance over the 20 years of MTN’s operations in the industry, as well as benchmarking processes. The reduction benefited MTN, the largest operator in the country, whose renewal fees was reduced from the originally proposed US$100 million to US$58 million. The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has called upon the church leaders to encourage people to adopt family planning methods. Kadaga said the Catholic Church has from time immemorial preached against families practicing family planning. “The church leaders play a very instrumental role in shaping societies; the church however, does not want to talk about family planning and shuns it,” she said. The Uganda National football team (U17) conducted their first training in Turkey in preparation for the first game against Cameroon U17 on Monday in the UEFA Assist U17 International tournament Antalya, Turkey 2019. Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has made a case for support from Hungary to Uganda’s industrialization efforts. Legislators have called for the naming and punishment of Bank of Uganda (BOU) officials responsible for the erroneous closure of the seven commercial. The MPs said that the report presented by the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase) on closure of the banks should have named the officials and caused their arrests.
