Makerere University marks alteration students to be penalized

Makerere University will recall the degrees of all students found guilty of having benefited from the marks alteration, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu has warned.

Last month, Makerere University closed the online marks system and suspended the issuance of academic transcripts after it emerged that some staff in the academic registrar’s office were tampering with student’s marks.
The Makerere University Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe wrote to the Inspector General of Police, Kale Kayihura to intervene and investigate the matter.

Officers from the Crime Intelligence and Investigations Department (CIID) picked up Christopher Ntwatwa and Mike Barongo, both IT specialists attached to the academic registrar’s office in connection to the complaints of marks alteration.
The university also suspended, Joyce Namusoke an Assistant Registrar in the School of Forestry, Environmental and Geographical Science over the same complaints. Prof. Ddumba, the Makerere University Vice Chancellor, says the complaints of marks alteration are not good for the university.
