Ugandan artists led by Radio and Weasel have officially launched their own uniting body named, “The Uganda Musicians’ Association”.
The Association aims at protecting and preserving Ugandan music. It also aims at promoting unity among musicians to eradicate the constant disputes that have been taking place amongst Ugandan artists.
The association leaders were voted yesterday with Julius Kyazze as theChairman, Angella Kalule as theVice chairperson and Sylver Kyagulanyi the secretary. It is made up of other artists like Chameleon, Bebe Cool, MunG etc.
For one to qualify and be part of association, one has to be a musician, vocalist, instrumentalist, producer or artist manager. However, the executive committee has the right to voluntarily give membership to an individual who does not meet the above qualifications but is of importance to the association.
The association is united with the National Union of Creative performing artists and Allied workers which is duly registered with the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and social development.
