URA arrests man pretending to be a tax collector.

A man identified as Abdu Opige has been caught trying to forcefully get money from some second-hand clothes traders in Kampala.

“On January 19, 2018 one Opige Abdu, was caught masquerading as a customs officer and trying to get money from a used clothes dealer at the New Taxi Park,” the URA assistant commissioner enforcement, Agnes Nabwire said.
She further added that URA acted immediately to this issue and Mr Opige was arrested and handed to the police because he was tarnishing the name of the company and it is their role to arrest him and condemn such actions.
URA has also gone ahead to issue a statement dismissing all allegations that Opige is one of their staff members.
“He is not one of us and we shall see to it that he is thoroughly punished for this behavior,”read the statement.
Ms Nabwire has warned the tax payers about such characters, saying anybody body asking for money on behalf of URA should be reported to the nearest police station or closest URA offices. This is because any cash transaction between URA and the tax payers is done through the bank and not paid in cash to an individual or group of people.
