Agriculture Minister Praises Bugweri Farmers for Embracing modern Farming

Towards stronger and more effective farmer groups, organisations and cooperatives: The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries was represented by Hon. Christopher Kibanzanga the State Minister for Agriculture in an official visit to Bugweri commercial Farmers Cooperative Society Limited.

As highlighted by Hon. Kibanzanga during the visit, farmers who are organised in groups such as those under Ministry projects ease service delivery and monitoring.

The State Minister also applauded members of the Cooperative for embracing unity and working together which has enabled them to receive training and 60 heifers from the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) which is one of 7 Agencies of the Ministry.

Through the training received the farmers managed to not only increase their household incomes but also double the number of Heifers to 120.

With 203 members registered, the Cooperative Society is working towards achieving 3 main objectives which are 
1. to provide good breeds of cattle, goat and poultry.
2. Introduction of improved crop varieties and
3. Creation of environmental sustainability awareness through sensitization and taking action through afforestation and establishment of nursery beds fr trees like eucalyptus, pine and fruits

As guided by the Ministry Mission which is “To transform subsistence farming to commercial agriculture” the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries has so far provided Heifers for commercial dairy farming to 122 farmers in the Cooperative Society through NAADS under the leadership of Dr. Samuel Mugasi the NAADS Executive Director.
