I Can’t Lose Sleep Because Of Rwanda Spies, Just Wasting Time – Museveni

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has downplayed the efforts done by neighboring Rwanda, in spying to senior officers in Uganda.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with France 24, Museveni described the efforts as a waste of time.

Museveni also blamed Rwanda’s president for shutting the border between Uganda and Rwanda two years ago and denied claims by Paul Kagame that he was acting like the Master of the region

In 2019, Rwanda closed its border with Uganda at Gatuna claiming it was working on its one-stop-border building. Its authorities later stopped all its nationals from entering Uganda on claims that Uganda was hostile.

All the transit goods crossing into Rwanda were diverted to Mirama hills and Kyanika in Ntungamo and Kisoro districts, respecitvely.

Ever since Rwanda stopped its nationals from entering Uganda and banned cross-border trade, traders in neighboring communities resorted to smuggling of goods from either side, resulting in the death of a number of Ugandans shot by Rwandan security operatives.

n a televised interview on Sunday on State agency, Rwanda Broadcasting Agency, President Kagame once again urged Rwandans not to travel to Uganda, as relations between the two countries remain cold. President Kagame said Rwandans fear travelling to Uganda due to the alleged illegal arrests and torture they face.

“There is only one way to avoid this problem; by not going there (to Uganda). Do not go there because if you cross the border and they arrest and beat you or rob you, and you come back, what do you want me to do…,” President Kagame said.
