Kampala Mayor Lukwago Trashes Invitation To Meet Museveni

The Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago has responded to the call from the Minister for Kampala to have him meet with Mr. Museveni in order to forge a way forward to the transformation of Kampala.

He declined and said that covertly meeting with Mr. Museveni will not have any positive contribution to the City transformation.

“Since there are elected leaders in Kampala including; Mayors, Councilors etc, it is better for him to come and meet all of them at City Hall.” The Lord Mayor made this comment as he was officiating the closure of the induction of Councilors from Makindye Division at Rider Hotel, Seeta.

He appreciated the organizers and the participants for being attentive and zealous about appreciating the legal regime governing Kampala. He asked fellow leaders to wholly embrace the proposals for amending the law in good faith.

About the development strategies for Kampala, the newly appointed FDC deputy chairman called upon the Central Government to commit atleast 3% of the National Budget to the Capital City development.

“This will fund the infrastructural improvement including, street lighting, drainage master plan, paving roads and establishing affordable workspaces among other.” He said adding that the City leadership is not willing to come up with exorbitant taxes and trade licenses to the business community in Kampala yet they are already funding enough the national budget for operating in the CDB.
