Kenya Airways reports profit for first time since 2017

Kenya Airways, one of the biggest airlines in Africa, turned a profit in 2023 for the first time since 2017.

Chairman Michael Joseph is quoted by the AFP news agency as referring to the $80 million (£63 million) excess as a “significant milestone”.

The achievement was partially attributed to a more than 50% rise in revenue brought about by an increase in the number of passengers.

Kenya Airways, which the government owns in part, has had a difficult past with significant debt and was severely impacted by the Covid pandemic’s aftermath.

In a statement obtained by AFP, Mr Joseph stated, “These figures highlight the airline’s remarkable performance over the year and provide encouraging signs of continued recovery within the air transportation sector.”
