The father of the Late Hon. Charles Willy Ekemu has also died just a day after the death of the son. Former Soroti Municipality MP Charles Willy Ekemu  was battling liver cancer at Nsambya Hospital. Ekemu was elected Member of Parliament after he defeated Capt. Mike Mukula in 2006. He however lost party primaries to Comrade Attan Okia Moses in 2011 hence contesting as an independent. The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, had demanded that the Minister of Kampala, Beti Kamya, presents a list showing vendors evicted from the Park Yard Market and where they have been relocated to. The Speaker’s directive followed a Statement made by the Minister about the Monday night eviction of vendors from the Park Yard Market, owned by the Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium. Members of Parliament have elected new representatives of Uganda to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). Parliament held a special sitting on Tuesday 28th February, 2017, during which candidates vying for posts in EALA were allowed to campaign to MPs. Tanzania’s most notorious elephant poacher, nicknamed “The Devil”, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. Boniface Matthew Maliango was responsible for killing thousands of elephants, a conservation organisation said. He was arrested in Dar es Salaam in September 2015 after a year-long manhunt. His crimes were the focus of a Netflix documentary film, The Ivory Game, produced by actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Maliango’s nickname, Shetani, means devil in Swahili.
