Ugandan traders who supplied goods to South Sudan and were never paid before the country plunged into civil war in 2013 have claimed unfairness in the compensation process. The traders, who appeared before a Parliamentary Select Committee on 13 March 2019, said that some traders or companies were getting double compensation. Parliament has approved government’s request to issue promissory notes worth US$379.71 million to finance the construction of the International Specialised Hospital of Uganda in Lubowa, Wakiso. The international hospital is intended to treat non-communicable diseases. The Minister of State for Finance, Hon. The Minister for Africa, Harriett Baldwin, on Thursday 7 March announced new funding to give more people and companies across Africa access to affordable, clean energy. This comes at the time when the Department for International Development’s Transforming Energy Access programme, has already helped people and businesses across Africa cut 2 million tonnes of carbon emissions and improve the lives of 3.2 million low income people.
