Nambooze conditions worsen, can’t breathe on her own

Following recent arrest and detention of Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Betty Nambooze, a lot of efforts have been put forward to see that she can access quality medication but most of these calls have been given a deaf ear.

News reaching our desk reveals how the vocal lawmaker’s health has continuously worsened.

According to our reporter who had earlier this morning visited the lawmaker at Kiruddu government where she has been admitted since last week, says that her face has is now swollen and can’t breathe on her own yet there is no enough oxygen at the medical facility.

According to the Democratic Party, they have appealed to the NRM government to restore Hon Betty Nambooze’s liberty to enable her access proper medical attention.

DP notes that, “The International Treaties and Patients’ Rights as enshrined in The Universal Declaration of Human Rights signed in 1948 in Paris recognizes “the inherent dignity and the equal inalienable rights of all members of the society”. The concept of the patient as a human being associated with basic dignity and the principle of equality between all human beings generated the concept of patients’ rights as one of the fundamental human rights. Hon. Nambooze like any other Ugandan deserves immediate medical attention and mostly in a very well equipped health facility.” The party states.

Nambooze is being detained on charges related to the murder of slain former Arua Municipality Hon. Ibrahim Abiriga.

Meanwhile the police head of human Rights AIGP Erasmus Twaruhukwa said they have not yet received any communication from the legislator or even her lawyers regarding her intention to travel abroad for further treatment.

“We have never gotten any submission showing that Nambooze needs to be taken abroad for treatment but we actually hear rumours and as police, we do not work on hearsay,” said Mr Twaruhukwa.
