Mixed Reactions as Museveni Shakes top Army Officers Ahead of Elections

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is the Commander in Chief (CIC) has made a mini reshuffle in the UPDF establishment and Uganda Police.

In the shakeup, Museveni has renewed IGP Martin Okoth Ochola’s contract but in the same vein dropped his deputy Maj. Gen. Sabiiti Muzeeyi who has been taken back to army headquarters for redeployment.

According to veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda who confirmed this report, Sabiiti has been replaced by Maj. Gen. Paul Lokech.

Museveni has also returned his son Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the commander of Special Forces Group (SFC), an elite force tasked to protect the first family and Uganda’s strategic areas.

Muhoozi will take over from Maj. Gen. James Birungi who has been leading the lethal unit since 2019.

James replaced Don Nabaasa who had succeeded Gen. Muhoozi.

Museveni in 2017 transferred Muhoozi from SFC to senior Presidential advisor on special operations.
