We can Take Over Power Without Using Violence – Lukwago Implores Youth

The Lord Mayor officiated at the opening of the Peace Dialogue organised by Wakiso District Human Rights Committee and Yearning Voices Foundation under the aegis of African Union.

The dialogue held at Grand Global Hotel aims at localizing the AU Peace and Security Continental Framework in Uganda.

The Lord Mayor as a key stakeholder in the promotion of peace, human rights and good governance in the country asked the youth to struggle to expunge and/or subdue the gun culture as the civilian authority from the body politic.

He called for a youth framework to shape the destiny of our continent without mastering violence.

Lastly he asked them to abhor use of violent means to acquire and/or retain power notwithstanding their perilous backgrounds. He also called for having functional and strong institutions as emphazised in SDG 16.

These include; the Rome Statute of 1998, African Charter on Human and People’s Rights, the East African Court of Justice and others which protect and promote human rights and basic freedoms on the African continent.
