Rwenzururu Kingdom To Celebrate 55th Coronation Anniversary Midst Absence Of Omusinga

The Rwenzururu Kingdom is expected to commemorate her 55th coronation anniversary on 19 October 2021, a celebration that comes five years since omusinga and several royal guards were incarcerated following a clash between government security forces and the palace royal guards.

The clash claimed dozens of lives while the Rwenzururu King Charles Wisely Mumbere Iremangoma and some of his royal guards have since 2016 remained incarcerated battling several charges including treason, murder and attempted murder among others.

Addressing the media at the liaisons office in Kasese town, the Rwenzururu Kingdom premier Rt Hon Joseph Muranga said the celebration will be marked under the theme “beginning our new journey to foster peace and environmental conservation”.

Rt Hon Muranga said among the activities to grace the event is tree planting which he said is intended to conserve the environment following reports of the decreasing snow cover through melting on Mt Rwenzori saying this is responsible for the flash floods in the District.

The prime minister however said the commemoration will be scientific stressing that only 200 guests are expected to be part of the event that will be marked on 19 October this month at the royal Hill in Basecamp Lower in Kasese town.

Muranga who urged all the Rwenzururu subjects across the region to contribute towards the ceremony added that a budget of about shillings 36 million has been made to facilitate the activities at the Event.

The coronation week will run from 14th-19th October 2021.

Kule noted that all subjects are expected to plant trees, mapping out cultural sites and visiting some cultural heritage sites of obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu.
