High Court has ordered government to pay the Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago UGX 50million as compensation for the violation of his rights and freedom over his brutal arrest during the age limit debate. Judge Hennriata Wolayo ruled that the compensation was appropriate as punitive, exemplary, general damages for the psychological torture, mental anguish, and emotional stress suffered by the Applicant. Lukwago is to be paid costs of this application and interest at 10% Per year from the date of this ruling until full payment is made. Happiness is killing Uganda Police as more than 2000 officers across the Country await for their COVID 19 operation allowances. Today Uganda police Force released over Shs 3 billion covid19 allowances through their respective DPCs. The message says Officers will be paid shs 12000 daily while other ranks will earn shs 11,000 daily. The money released was for three months; March, April and May. Sources from police say officers who worked for three months will be a earning close to Shs 1M. Below is a list of officers and their earnings.
By AFP Kenya’s confirmed coronavirus cases have risen to 700 after 28 more people tested positive, Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rashid Aman has said today. The new cases include 10 from Mombasa County, 9 from Kajiado, 7 in Nairobi and 2 from Wajir. He said all the cases in Kajiado were truck drivers tested at the Namanga border point with Tanzania. 841 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Dokolo Woman MP, Cecilia Atim Ogwal collapsed in parliament on Monday. The veteran legislator reportedly started feeling nauseated at around 2:00 pm before she collapsed. The parliamentary medical team picked her up from the pigeonhole area and took her to the waiting room where they administered first aid, according to eyewitnesses. She was later rushed her home for a rest. Ogwal confirmed on the phone that she felt nauseated at parliament but was now out of danger and feeling better. Nine people are reported dead after a building under construction collapsed in Lukuli-Nanganda Village, Makindye division in Kampala. Daily Monitor reported that the three-storied building located on Soweto Road collapsed Saturday night trapping scores of workers in the rubble. The construction workers have been staying on-site following a presidential directive which restricted movement of people in a bid to stop further spread of Covid-19. The deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan police, Luke Owoyesigyire, said eight bodies and had been recovered from the rubbles. Government has finally granted bail to former Security Minister, Lt Gen (rtd) Henry Tumukunde. Tumukunde has been on remand since March this year. Justice Kwesiga of the High Court reviewed his earlier decision and approved his wife Stellah Tumukunde, his brother in-laws Hannington Karuhanga and family friend Matthew Rukikaire as substantial sureties. The judge on Monday ordered Gen Tumukunde who, prior to his arrest had expressed interest in running for president, to sign a Shs50 million non-cash bail and deposit his passport in court while his sureties were each asked to execute a non-cash bond of Shs50 million. On Sunday 10 May, 2020, 5 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed from 1,498 samples of truck drivers. This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 121 in Uganda. The new cases are: 2 Ugandan and 3 Kenyan truck drivers who arrived via Elegu and Malaba Points of Entry. All 341 community samples have tested negative for COVID-19. Total samples tested at Uganda Virus Research Institute were 1,839.
