Court in Makindye on 14th June 2019 charged a Drone Media journalist Pidson Kareire with criminal libel and offensive communication contrary to sections 179 and 25 of the Penal Code Act and Computer Misuse act respectively. Middle East Consultants Limited, a labor export company dragged Pidson to court by private prosecution accusing him of criminal defamation and offensive communication. It is alleged that Pidson published stories on the Drone Media Website to the effect that Middle East Consultants extorts money from job seekers in return of jobs which are never availed. Pidson denied the charges and was released on Shillings 10 million non-cash bail.…
The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has rallied support from the Vice President, Edward Ssekandi in ensuring successful implementation of the Busoga Consortium Development Agenda. The Busoga Consortium was started in 2013 with the aim of alleviating poverty in Busoga through nine pillars of development including education, health, roads and infrastructure and agriculture, among others. The High court has granted Rwenzururu king Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma permission to travel to Kasese to mourn his late mother, Christine Biira Mukirania. According to bail terms revealed by his legal team, Mumbere is only supposed to travel to areas of Kasese, Kabarole and Bundibugyo. Mumbere’s temporary bail stands for only two weeks. In bid to have a corruption free society, the Anti-Corruption Unit of State House headed by Lt Col Edith Nakalema Wednesday raided Bank of Uganda and arrested five officials accused of printing their own money. The operation involved Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence [CMI], Internal Security Organisation [ISO] and members of the regular police force.
